SAMARITANS
Samaritans is the only charity in Ireland offering emotional support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to anyone who is in distress, lonely, struggling to cope or feeling suicidal.
Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need. We work with individuals who are going through a difficult time and train others to do the same. Samaritans give them ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. And we encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.
Supporting people in Ireland since 1961, our volunteers have had millions of potentially life-saving conversations with callers through its freephone phone helpline, email, face-to-face support and outreach in communities, schools, festivals and prisons.
Samaritans have 21 local branches across the island of Ireland (13 in RoI and 8 in NI) which are run independently by a network of volunteers. Support is given by a small team of staff in Dublin and in Belfast.
Volunteers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on the freephone helpline number 116 123 and email jo@samaritans.ie.
Mark Kennedy, Assistant Director, Samaritans Ireland, said:
“We are delighted that Brent and the team behind Elephant in the Room selected Samaritans Ireland as their first charity partner. These are difficult times for many people and Samaritans volunteers are here for anyone struggling to cope. By partnering with Samaritans Ireland to raise awareness of our work and funds, Elephant in the Room will help us to be there to support people through the challenges they face. Samaritans’ helpline 116 123 is available day and night, 365 days a year thanks to our generous supporters, and we urge anyone in need to reach out for support.”
