Danny Sculthorpe
Ex-professional rugby league player, MENTAL HEALTH KEYNOTE and
motivational/inspirational public speaker.
Danny Sculthorpe is a former professional rugby league player who represented top clubs such as Rochdale, Wigan, Castleford, Wakefield, Bradford, and Huddersfield during his impressive career. He was honoured to represent England 8 times, captaining the team on two occasions. However, a devastating training accident forced Danny into early retirement, leading him into a severe battle with depression, where he often felt like a burden to his family and contemplated taking his own life.
With the support of his family, counselling, and clinical care, Danny overcame his darkest moments and has since dedicated his life to helping others. Today, he is a motivational speaker, using the power of sport to tackle mental health stigma and reach those in need. He speaks to various audiences, from schools, colleges, and sports clubs to prisons and construction sites, encouraging open conversations about mental health.
Driven by a deep commitment to preventing suicide, Danny is keenly aware that behind each statistic is a family forever changed. His mission is to motivate others to change the way they think and speak about their mental health, ensuring that no one feels alone in their struggles. He aims to bring hope and healing to those who need it most through his work.
Danny’s involvement with Elephant in the Room underscores his dedication to helping others by sharing his story and encouraging open conversations about mental health.
